United starts letting friends and family pool frequent flyer miles

Airlines Introduce Frequent Flyer Miles Pooling #

United Airlines is now allowing members of its MileagePlus loyalty program to pool their frequent flyer miles and use them for trips on United. Customers can select up to four family members or friends to participate in the joint account. Families can even use their children’s miles towards tickets. Customers will still have their own MileagePlus accounts and can decide how much they want to contribute to the pool. The miles can be redeemed for flights and other products on United’s website or app. Other airlines like JetBlue Airways and Frontier Airlines also offer loyalty points pooling. The goal is to engage less-frequent to moderately-frequent travelers and their family members in the rewards program.
